One of my favorite columnists is Gregg Easterbrook. He writes for a few different venues, but I generally just read his "Tuesday Morning Quarterback" on ESPN.com (yes, I read ESPN.com). Some of his column actually does have something to do with football. Much of it, however, is just ranting (pretty intelligently, actually) about various things. Last week's column had rants about loans, ego-inflating body guards, and his unified theory of creep (Purim pastries on sale in January?!). I think my favorite line, though, came when he was relating some of his own news: "I just completed my next book, which is an immense relief. Book writing is like hitting yourself with a hammer: it feels SO good when you stop."
Also, he once quoted me when I corrected him on how many countries there are in the world.
P.S. - For the record, my major annoyance with Easterbrook is that he's a bit of a chauvanist at times. I just start skipping sections when he mentions "cheer professionalism."
Also in football news, this article proposes that the Steelers are the greatest sports franchise of all time. It's a bit over-the-top, but as a diehard black and gold fan, I had to grin a bit smugly.
Edit: In this week's TMQ, Easterbrook posits that "Kurt Warner" is in fact a Tralfamadorian.
